Heart Lake Trail, Ladysmith, BC

Not to long ago I checked out the Holland Creek Trail in Ladysmith, BC. Recently I went back to hike up to Heart Lake with my friend Elaine. We parked the car as far up into the community as we could go and hiked along the Holland Creek Trail till we came to the first sign. We then made our way up to the Heart Lake Trail junction. From the junction you can either take the long or short route. We decided to take the shorter option which started us at the Stone Steps. Its all up hill from there. Along the way we noticed an abundant amount of spider web domes and once you get closer to the top there is a view point overlooking Ladysmith and the Straight of Georgia. Just a few minutes past the view point is Heart Lake. You get a fantastic view of the lake right when you reach it. The people we met said it was great for swimming and it did look refreshing. There was also a ton of dragon flies and we even saw a snake swimming in the lake. We started to make our way around the lake but it was getting pretty muddy and there was lots of mosquitoes, so we turned back. Next time I hope to make it all the way up to Stocking Lake.
